MAJOR CAR MANUFACTURER RECALLS OVER 1 MILLION VEHICLES

The Fiat-Chrysler group recently announced a recall of three popular car models including the Chrysler 300, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the 2012-2014 Dodge Charger. This large-scale recall is expected to affect over 1 million vehicles, many of which are in the United States.

DESIGN FLAW

These vehicles are running normally, but the design flaw in the shift levers has made them surprisingly dangerous. Many drivers have been leaving their vehicles without first putting the car properly into the parking gear due to the confusing nature of the levelers. The level itself remains in the same position regardless of what gear the car is in. Therefore, it is an easy mistake to make. The only indication of a shift in gear is the change in the display lights.

INJURY COMPENSATION

There have been over 300 reports of vehicles rolling away and over 100 accidents. Injury ranges from cuts, scrapes, and bruising to a fractured pelvis and broken ribs. Victims who sustain injury due to a design flaw can sue for damages, but a recall does not guarantee compensation. Victims must still prove that the product was defective and that the defect is what ultimately caused the injuries.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Consumers with a vehicle on the recall list should take certain precautions to avoid accidents. You can take recalled vehicles in and provide them with modified warning systems to improve the indication of the car’s current gear. Newer versions of the listed vehicles have already been updated to include a more intuitive gear shift to help prevent any future accidents and injuries from occurring.
