WHEN DO YOU NEED MEDICAL TREATMENT AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT?

Auto accidents, by nature, are unpredictable. When you leave for work or school in the morning, you probably don’t think your day will involve a collision. Unfortunately, these situations are extremely common.

After an accident, you may feel fine and want to go about your day best. However, failing to seek medical treatment can result in issues down the road.

IMMEDIATE MEDICAL EVALUATIONS ARE USUALLY WISE

In some situations, it will be evident if you need immediate medical care. Examples of when this is necessary include bone fractures, severe pain, mental confusion, swelling, or areas of paralysis.

If you were hit in the head or if you head struck something during the collision, you should get checked out by a paramedic or at the emergency room. The high-stress situation can mask some injuries, so getting checked out, even if you feel fine, is highly recommended.

Some accidents are classified as minor or “fender benders.” While these may seem like no big deal, the impact of your car and another vehicle or object can have serious repercussions. If you don’t want to go to the emergency room to be evaluated, you should still go to an urgent care center or make an appointment with your doctor right away.

If you were injured but waited to seek medical care, the insurance company for the at-fault party may deny your claim for compensation and refuse to pay your bills. With documentation from a medical professional, you have proof of your injuries.

PROTECTING YOUR HEALTH AND YOUR RIGHTS AFTER A WRECK

Being involved in a car wreck can be a life-altering experience, both physically and legally. Your immediate priorities should be protecting your health and ensuring your rights are safeguarded. After an accident, you may feel overwhelmed and confused. While this is true, you still need to take steps to protect your health – and your legal rights.
